KiwiRail reduces maintenance costs and increases user productivity - AppSense Management Suite

To address its project goals KiwiRail installed and deployed AppSense Management Suite as an integral component of the IT infrastructure upgrade. AppSense simplifies the management of complex IT infrastructure, operating effectively in KiwiRail's environment which consists of 400 servers, 30 Citrix servers and 1500 desktops, running more than 50 applications.

"Implementing AppSense right from the word go, as part of the overhaul, has meant we have achieved the best possible results from the upgraded infrastructure and user acceptance has been seamless. We have greater visibility into the environment which enables IT to be proactive rather than wait for problems to occur, resulting in lower management and support costs, improved user satisfaction and productivity, and measurable quality of service levels."

WAN tool saved ASB Bank thousands - Fluke Networks NetFlow Tracker

ASB reports that greater insight into traffic flows using the Fluke Network's NetFlow Tracker has saved the Bank thousands of dollars each month. The NetFlow Tracker cost $130,000 to install, with an annual support fee of $30,000. Mr Lockwood says the return on investment has amounted to ongoing savings of up to $15,000 a month.

"What we had previously would generate overall reports on network utilisation, but not identify what the network was being used for. The NetFlow Tracker lets us drill down to the protocol, so we can see how much of the traffic is web-access, how much is mail, FTP, bank applications and so on."

Powerco maximises Citrix server utilisation - AppSense Performance Manager

AppSense Performance Manager enabled a 40 percent increase in server capacity by reducing the number of resources required to run desktops and applications within the data centre. Powerco was able to identify resource-intensive applications and limit the resource available to them, ensuring enough capacity for every user on the server.

"The blades and VMware implementation went smoothly, but we knew our 47 Citrix servers were still not running at full capacity. We spoke to AppSense about how we could squeeze more users on to servers, without the need to virtualise or compromise business critical applications.

AppSense helped us reduce our 47 Citrix servers down to 25. Not only do we have more users than ever on our existing hardware, but we have not had to compromise or restrict any of the Citrix applications. Most importantly, we did not have to virtualise our infrastructure to achieve this, which was a key aim for us."

Secure remote access for Canterbury DHB - SafeWord Tokens

"To maintain the highest level of security, and to maintain the high level of trust the public has placed in our District, we decided to go beyond simple memorised passwords, and provide ultra-secure remote access through a passcode-generating token system.

"I looked at numerous systems, but SafeWord was the most cost-effective of them all -delivering excellent security at a good price point, and with great ease of use for both administrators and users."

- Derek Benfield, Administration Manager, Canterbury District Health Board

Improved IT services and reduced support costs - Wyse Thin Clients

"Maintaining the desktops was chewing up valuable IT team support time as it was. We needed to reduce desktop maintenance and free up IT staff to focus on strategic projects.

"If support is required we now have the ability through the Wyse thin computers for remote management. The user's session can be viewed as an administrator on the server and their problems addressed remotely within minutes. This also applies to configuration and upgrades."

- Kylee Mills, Systems Administrator, Taupo District Council
